OUR 3RD ANNUAL COMEDY SHOW WAS HELD LAST NIGHT AT THE SOCIAL HALL ON OLIVER ROAD. WE HAD 84 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. AN EXCELLENT SET OF COMEDIANS ENTERTAINED THE SMALL CROWD FOR JUST OVER 2 HOURS. A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL THOSE IN ATTENDANCE.

CHIEF KIP HAYFORD WAS AWARDED THE GEORGE HAMBURG FIRE INSTRUCTOR AWARD AT THE ANNUAL OLD TIMERS NIGHT OF THE ERIE COUNTY FIRE FIGHTER ASSOCIATION. THE EVENT WAS HELD AT SAINT JOHN'S SOCIAL HALL IN GIRARD PA.
OVER THE PAST 2 WEEKS WE HAVE HAD 3 PROBATIONARY MEMBERS WITHDRAW THEIR APPLICATIONS. BEAU BEACH WITHDREW DUE TO A LACK OF TIME TO ANSWER CALLS AND ATTEND TRAINING DUE TO WORK AND HIS FAMILY LIFE. THE OTHER ISSUE WAS LIVING AT 3RD AND LIBERTY MADE IT DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE STATION FOR CALLS.

TONIGHT PERRY HI-WAY WELCOMED THE MEMBERS FROM KEARSARGE , STATION 44, UP TO THE OLIVER ROAD STATION FOR A JOINT TRAINING ON WATER RESCUE AWARENESS. THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE WATER RESCUE TO THE FIRE / EMS AND OTHERS THAT ME BE INVOLVED IN A WATER RESCUE SITUATION.

WITH THE NICE SPRING DAY UPON US TODAY MEMBERS FROM PERRY HI-WAY, BROOKSIDE AND KUHL HOSE PUT IN SOME TIME WORKING ON THE TRAINING GROUNDS AT STATION 42. CONCRETE FORMS WERE SET FOR THE PROPANE TANK SLAB, THE PROPANE CHRISTMAS TREE AND THE CAR FIRE PROP.
TRUCK 439 HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED BACK INTO THE BRUSH TRUCK FOR ANOTHER SEASON OF GRASS AND BRUSH FIRES. THE NICE WEATHER TODAY COMBINED WITH A GREAT LOOKING LONG RANGE WEATHER FORECAST THE MEMBERS DECIDED TO PULL THE PLOW OFF OF T-439 AND PUT THE SKID UNIT BACK ON.

E-434 MADE A TRIP DOWN TO 4-GUYS YESTERDAY TO GET THE RECALL WORK OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM REPAIRED. AN NEW ELECTRONIC MODULE WAS INSTALLED IN PLACE OF THE OLD UNIT. THE TRUCK WAS THEN CALIBRATED FOR USE.

OUR 2 MSA MULTI GAS MONITORS HAD NEW OXYGEN SENSORS INSTALLED AND THE UNITS CALIBRATED BY KAZA'S LOCAL SERVICE REP JIM STEELE, TO GET OUR MONITORS BACK IN SHAPE FOR ANOTHER YEAR OF CO ALARMS AND ODOR INVESTIGATIONS.
THE NUMEROUS PIECES OF OUR HURST "JAWS OF LIFE" SYSTEMS WERE INSPECTED AND YEARLY MAINTENANCE COMPLETED BY THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED SERVICE COMPANY. ALL 17 TOOLS THAT ARE CARRIED ON OUR VARIOUS APPARATUS WERE INSPECTED AND LUBRICATED AS WELL AS TESTED FOR PROPER OPERATING PRESSURES.

THE ANNUAL TESTING OF THE SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS (SCBA) WAS COMPLETED TODAY. THE LOCAL SERVICE TECH FROM KAZA FIRE EQUIPMENT WAS IN TOWN YESTERDAY AND TODAY TO GET ALL 32 OF OUR SCBA TESTED.
AFTER MAKING SOME AMENDMENT REQUESTS THE GRANT FUNDING WE RECEIVED FROM THE FEMA FIRE ACT GRANT IN 2010 FOR TRAINING AND WELLNESS WILL BE EXTENDED TILL SEPTEMBER OF 2012. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO PAY FOR 15 INDIVIDUALS TO TEST FOR DRIVER OPERATOR CERTIFICATION PUMPER & TENDER.

PERRY HI-WAY HAS LOST 2 OF ITS PAST MEMBERS RECENTLY. DAVE FLINT WAS KILLED ON FEBRUARY 2, 2012 IN A VIOLENT 2 VEHICLE CRASH. DAVE WAS ON THE WAY TO A TRAINING SECESSION AT THE FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP VOLUNTEER FIRE STATION WHEN HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT.

A CONFIRMATION EMAIL FROM 4-GUYS TODAY SET FRIDAY FEBRUARY 17 2012 AS THE PICK UP DATE FOR OUR NEW ENGINE TANKER UNIT. THE TRUCK COMMITEE WILL DRIVE DOWN TO THE 4-GUYS PLANT TO PICK UP THE NEW TRUCK. WHILE AT THE PLANT WE WILL RECIEVE TRAINING ON THE NEW TRUCK AND ALSO DO A PUMP TEST AT THEIR PUMP...
WITH FEMA GRANT MONIES LEFT OVER IN TRAINING FOR CERTIFICATION WE WILL BE PICKING UP THE COST FOR 15 PEOPLE TO TAKE THEIR CERTIFICATION TESTING. THE WRITTEN PORTION OF THE TESTS WILL BE ON JUNE 29TH AT 7PM AT STATION 43 ON OLIVER ROAD.
OVER THE PAST WEEK WE HAVE RECEIVED APPLICATIONS FROM 2 NEW MEMBERS. THESE NEW MEMBERS BOTH COME FROM OTHER FIRE COMPANIES. BEAU BEACH HAS MOVED INTO THE AREA FOR WORK FROM THE WEST HICKORY FIRE DEPARTMENT AREA.
OUR YEARLY HAZ-MAT OPS REFRESHER WILL BE HELD AT STATION 43 THE NEXT 2 MONDAY NIGHTS ( 1-23 & 1-30) THIS YEARLY REFRESHER IS REQUIRED TO MEET THE FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HAZ-MAT TRAINING FOR OUR MEMBERS.

THE CHECK OF THE E-MAIL THIS AM FOUND OUR REFUSAL LETTERS FOR THE 2011 FEMA FIRE ACT GRANTS. WE WERE TURNED DOWN FOR BOTH OUR TRAINING EQUIPMENT GRANT FOR A MOBILE PROPANE BURN SIMULATOR AND ALSO OUR VEHICLE GRANT.
