GARAGE FIRE IN FIRST DUE

CREWS WERE CALLED OUT BEFORE 6PM FOR A REPORTED BARN FIRE IN THE 9400 BLOCK OF OLD FRENCH ROAD. INITIAL CALLS CAME IN FOR LEE ROAD.  THE DISPATCHER WAS ABLE TO BETTER LOCATE THE FIRE ON OLD FRENCH ROAD.  E-423 AND T-435 RESPONDED WITH IN 3 MIN FROM STATION 42 AND ARRIVED ON SCENE 11 MIN FROM DISPATCH TO FIND A LARGE 40' X 40' POLE BARN ON FIRE WITH THE ROOF BEGINNING TO COLLAPSE. WE ALSO HAD INFORMATION THAT THERE WERE SOME PROPANE CYLINDERS IN THE GARAGE AS WELL AS OXY-ACETYLENE  TANKS. THE LOCATION WAS NEAR THE END OF OLD FRENCH ROAD NEAR LEE ROAD MAKING THE HYDRANT ACCESSIBLE SO T-435 WAS PARKED. E-423 PERFORMED A BLIND ALLEY LAY UP THE DRIVEWAY TO THE GARAGE 300' + OFF THE ROADWAY. THE HEAVY FIRE  AND COLLAPSING BUILDING MADE FOR AN EXTERNAL DEFENSIVE ATTACK. E-423 DEPLOYED THE READ TAIL GUN AS WELL AS THE DECK PIPE TO ATTACK THE FIRE AND PROTECT EXPOSURES. e-434 RESPONDED FROM STATION 43 AND ARRIVED 2ND DUE ENGINE AND CAME IN TO PICK UP THE 5" SUPPLY LINE FOR E-423 AND SUPPLIED THEM WITH THEIR 1500 GALLON TANK WATER. E-143 WAS ARRIVING WITH E-434 AND HAD STOPPED TO FORWARD LAY TO THE FIRE SCENE.  800' OF 5" HOSE WAS DROPPED BY 143 AND THE 5" WAS HOOKED INTO E-434 TO PROVIDE STEADY WATER SUPPLY.  CREWS FROM E-143, AND R-148 ASSISTED E-423 AND E-434 WITH THE FIRE FIGHT. L-449 ARRIVED AND STAGED ON THE ROADWAY AS THERE WAS NO ROOM TO GAIN ACCESS WITH THE AERIAL. THE 449 CREW ASSISTED IN OVERHAUL. R-428 RESPONDED FOR REHAB, LIGHTS, AND AIR CASCADE SYSTEM. t-438 AND T-439 RESPONDED WITH PERSONNEL AND S-427 WAS BROUGHT TO THE SCENE FOR EMS COVERAGE.  E-364 PROVIDED MANPOWER AND E-382 HELD THE RIT ASSIGNMENT. E-383 RESPONDED AND PROVIDED MANPOWER AS WELL BUT WERE RELEASED TO RETURN WHEN THEY HAD A REPORTED FIRE IN THEIR DISTRICT.  

IN TOTAL E-423 HAD DEPLOYED THE DECK GUN, THE REAR TAIL GUN WITH 300'3",  1 CROSSLAY OF 200' 13/4" AND THE FRONT BUMPER LINE.  THE FRONT BUMPER LINE WAS USED TO PROTECT EXPOSURES AND THEN CHANGED TO FOAM FOR OVERHAUL. THE POLE BARN WAS FOUND TO HOLD A PICKUP TRUCK, A CAMPER, SNOWMOBILE, 4 WHEELER AND SEVERAL TIRES IN ADDITION TO THE PROPANE TANKS AND TORCHES. CREWS WERE ABLE TO PREVENT THE FIRE FORM SPREADING TO ANY OF THE EXPOSURES.  FIRE WAS LISTED UNDER CONTROL 26 MIN FROM ARRIVAL. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE OVERHAUL PERFORMED TO MAKE SURE THE FIRES IN ALL THE EQUIPMENT WERE OUT. THE POLE BARN WAS A TOTAL LOSS.  THE PSP FIRE MARSHAL WILL BE ASSISTING WITH THE INVESTIGATION MONDAY MORNING.  THERE WERE NO INJURIES.  THE GARAGE HAD BEEN OCCUPIED IN THE DAY AND WAS UNOCCUPIED AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE STARTING.

UNITS ON SCENE: E-423, E-434, R-428, T-439, U-438, S-427, T-435, E-143, E-148, E-364, E-382 (RIT) L-449, E-383. STATION 12 ON STAND BY FOR STATION 14.
