URBAN WILDLAND FIRE WITH WEST RIDGE FOR WORKING FIRE

CREWS WERE CALLED OUT AGAIN TODAY TO ASSIST WEST RIDGE ON A WILD LAND FIRE NEAR A RESIDENCE THIS TIME IN THE 5000 BLOCK OF LANCASTER DRIVE. A HOMEOWNER WAS BURNING TRASH IN HIS BURNING BARREL AND EMBERS SET THE LEAVES AND TINDER ON FIRE AND THE BREEZE PUSHED IT TO THE SOUTH WEST.  WEST RIDGE E-472 WAS FIRST ON SCENE WITH THE IRT CREW AND THEY REPORTED A WELL INVOLVED FIRE IN THE INTERFACE AREA WITH APPROX 1 ACRE INVOLVED AND SPREADING FAST.  T-439 WAS SPECIAL CALLED FOR BRUSH EQUIPMENT AND ALSO TO ACCESS THE FIRE.  WEST RIDGE CREWS HAD TO STRETCH SEVERAL LENGTHS OF 21/2" HOSE AND FLY THE WYE TO REACH THE FIRE AREA. DUE TO THE SMOKE AND AMOUNT OF FIRE E-472 FORWARD LAY FROM A HYDRANT AT THE DRIVEWAY ON LANCASTER FOR WATER SUPPLY. T-439 ARRIVED AND DOVE DOWN THE DRIVEWAY OF THE HOUSE TO THE SOUTH AND INTO THE BACK YARD TO REACH THE PROGRESSING HEAD OF THE FIRE. ONCE POSITIONED THE REEL LINE WAS DEPLOYED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND STOP THE SPREAD.  THE FULL 250 GALLON TANK WAS USED TO WET DOWN THE EDGE OF THE FIRE AT THE HEAD AND DOWN THE LEFT FLANK.  RAKES WERE ALSO USED BY CREWS TO RAKE A CONTAINMENT LINE AROUND THE FIRE.  ONCE EMPTY 439 MADE IT WAY OUT OF THE YEAR AND ONTO THE BLACKTOP DRIVEWAY WHERE E-472 WAS ABLE TO FILL OUR TANK.  THE CHAN SAW WAS USED TO CUT SOME LOGS FOR OVERHAUL. 439 ASSISTED IN PICKING UP SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET OF HOSE INCLUDING 21/2" AND 5". T-439 WAS RETURNING APPROX 90 MINS FROM ARRIVAL ON SCENE.
