ENGINE & TRUCK CALLED TO ASSIST STATION 38

JUST AFTER 9PM TONIGHT STATION 42 WAS CALLED OUT FOR 2ND ALARM ASSISTANCE ON A WORKING FIRE IN A COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE WITH STATION 38 IN THE 12000 BLOCK OF EDINBORO ROAD. THE ALARM ASSIGNMENT WAS FOR 1 ENGINE AND 1 LADDER.  L-429 RESPONDED FROM STATION 42 WITH 3 PAID STAFF MEMBERS AND E-432 RESPONDED FROM STATION 43 WITH 4 VOLUNTEERS.  WHILE RESPONDING L-429 WAS PLACED IN SERVICE BEFORE ARRIVAL. E-432 WAS USED FOR MANPOWER.  E-432 PERSONNEL ASSISTED WITH VENTILATION AND SALVAGE.

STATION 38 HAD CREWS IN STATION ON STANDBY FOR THE EDINBORO UNIVERSITY HOMECOMING EVENTS AND WERE ABLE TO GET OUT THE DOOR WITHIN 2 MIN OF DISPATCH. ON SCENE AT NICK'S PLACE THEY ENCOUNTERED A WORKING FIRE IN THE STORAGE AREA NEXT TO THE KITCHEN. E-382 MADE AN INITIAL ATTACK AND WAS ABLE TO KNOW DOWN THE MAJOR FIRE AND HOLD THE FIRE TO THE ROOM OF ORIGIN AND THE KITCHEN AREA. A SECOND ALARM WAS TRANSMITTED ON FINDING THE WORKING FIRE.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND THE FIRE MARSHAL HAS BEEN CALLED IN TO HELP STATION 38 IN THE INVESTIGATION.

2 FIREFIGHTERS HAD TO BE EVALUATED AT A LOCAL ER DUE TO EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS LOCATED IN THE STORAGE AREA THAT BURNED.  NO INJURIES OF ANY CIVILIANS.
